| Clothing
Children should wear comfortable, washable play clothes in which they
can move easily and freely. Clothing should be simple enough for the child
to manage alone. We discourage complicated straps and snaps, etc., which
the children cannot possibly handle by themselves. REMEMBER we paint,
play outside, and explore art through different mediums. Do NOT send your
child to school in anything which could be damaged by his/her use of creative
supplies. In the interest of safety in the classroom and on the playground,
children may not wear sandals or boots to school. All children, regardless
of age, should have a change of clothing on hand. This change of clothing
may be brought daily in the child’s bag and left at school in their
cubby. Label all articles of clothing that are to be removed at school
(sweaters, coats, caps, etc.).
We will play outside for some period of time each day unless it is raining.
You will want to be sure that your child is dressed appropriately for
this, including mittens and a hat on cold days.
Changes at home
Sometimes things which happen at home can cause changes in a child’s
behavior at school. It is helpful if the teacher knows that something
out of the ordinary is going on so that she may understand the reasons
for the child’s unusual behavior. Therefore, if Grandma comes to
visit for a while or someone in the family is in the hospital or something
of this nature, please let your child’s teacher know about it. This
will help her make your child’s time at school be the best it can
be. Sometimes the medicines that are given for a child’s allergies
may affect his/her activity level. When you either start this type of
medicine or stop it after it has been given for a period of time, it would
be helpful for the teacher to know this information.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
Parent-teacher conferences can be scheduled during the school year for
our toddler through four year old classes. Should you like a conference,
your child’s teacher will be glad to arrange one. A record of your
child’s progress is kept by each teacher and is placed in your child’s
file at the end of each school year.
Birthdays & Holidays
Parents are sometimes asked to help with holiday celebrations: Halloween,
Christmas, Valentine’s Day or Easter. We wish to present holidays
in their Christian setting and use that as the basis for our celebrations.
Each child at this school is blessed to have many opportunities for fun,
enrichment and special treats. When we observe a special day at school
whether it is Christmas, Valentine’s Day, or birthdays, our objective
is for the child to experience the true meaning of the celebration. God’s
love is a part of each of our celebrations and that love is what we want
the children to enjoy and remember.
Teachers may decide to have a class observance of a holiday and we ask
for parents cooperation in helping the children to focus on the reason
for the celebration rather than the excessive material expressions of
the celebration. Please check with your child’s teacher for the
specific guideline for any celebration.
Your child’s birthday is important to him/her and to us! Please
discuss details with your child’s teacher before
his/her birthday so that she can make it a special day for the child.
No gifts are to be exchanged. The birthday child may furnish a special
treat for snack such as donut holes or cookies. In addition, parents may
donate a book to CDO in honor of the birthday child. We will make an appropriate
bookplate with the child’s name, birth date, and class. Love and
consideration for others is one of the basic teachings at TUMC CDO. Therefore,
birthday party invitations may not be distributed at school unless the
whole class is invited. Naturally, it is often impossible to invite all
the classmates to a birthday party, in which case we ask that the party
invitations not be distributed at CDO.
