ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES

ADULT BIBLE CLASS

The members of the Adult Bible Class are serious, inquiring students of the Bible.We follow the lectionary readings for each Sunday, with leadership duties rotating among several class members.Much time is spent in discussion of the scripture and the traditions of our faith.The Adult Bible Class welcomes visitors and encourages new members to join us.

DORCAS CLASS

Under the leadership of a regular group of rotating teachers, the Dorcas Class uses the Adult Bible Studies curriculum as a basis for class discussion each Sunday morning. This group of older adult women has a long and continuing record of service to the congregation of Tarrytown U.M.C. Their door is open to anyone who would like to visit or become a member of their class.

FAITH CLASS

The Faith Class has an average Sunday morning attendance of about 25 to 30 members, which allows for a free and lively class discussion. Class members, who are in their 60’s on up, rotate leadership on a quarterly basis.This brings to the class a variety of topics in the areas of ethics and theology. Faith Class members meet at 9:30 a.m. for fellowship and discussion.They have a number of social gatherings during the year; the most notable being their Christmas Dinner Social.They are active participants in the church and community, feeding the homeless, helping with the State School Christmas party, and generally being available when needed.Their slogan is “Come on in for a FAITH LIFT”.They invite you to join them on their faith journey.

FELLOWSHIP CLASS

The Fellowship Class is a large class of mature adults, above retirement age. Formerly called the Young Adults Class, many in this group have been together a long time and enjoy social activities together as well as participating in all aspects of church life. A regular group of rotating teachers provide inspirational and informative lessons. This warm and friendly group welcomes you to join them on Sunday morning in the Chapel.

This adult Sunday school class welcomes people of all ages, married or single. Begun in September of 1996, the class uses United Methodist adult Sunday School curriculum as a focus on Bible study. The format involves fairly regular attendance and reading a short lesson each week before class.

S.W.I.F.T. CLASS

S.W.I.F.T. is an acronym for "Searching and Witnessing in Fellowship Together," and as the name suggests, S.W.I.F.T. members are active in all phases of church life and enjoy many social activities throughout the year.  Class lessons are primarily lecture-style, with plenty of questions and answers.  Guest speakers from inside and outside the Tarrytown family talk on a wide range of Biblical, theological, and social issues, from thought provoking to finding peace in chaos.  SWIFT is a large class, and attendance is 60 to 80 on a typical Sunday.  You will enjoy this lively group.

WESLEY CLASS

Another large class, the Wesley Class is composed of both single and married adults, with elementary children, junior high, and high school youth. A program committee decides the lesson topics and recruits teachers from both inside and outside the class. Wesley Class members are very active in church outreach activities and have also taken on several short-term outreach projects as a class. Several of the class members are Sunday school teachers.Class members enjoy being together socially, and they invite all visitors and new members to join them on Sunday morning.

CORNERSTONE CLASS

This class began September 14, 2003. A young adults class: (20’s-early 40’s), single, engaged, married, with and without children. Class is led predominately by class members with an emphasis on discussion amongst the class members. The programming varies, but our primary focus is Bible study and daily Christian principals and beliefs.We have occasional guest speakers.We have regular social events as well as volunteer opportunities.

PATHFINDERS

A new adult Sunday School class at 9:30 began September 10, 2006.The group is composed primarily of adults who are 40-50 “ish” in age and many have children who are in elementary school and junior high.There will be meaningful Bible study lessons which focus on life issues pertinent to adults as they seek to apply their Christianity to daily living, as well as fellowship opportunities.They have a teacher and hosts.For more information, contact the church office or one of the hosts: Jennie Burt, Tasha Cline, and Pam Sigman.

ALDERSGATE CLASS

This class began on October 6, 1996, and is open to anyone not already involved in a class. All ages are welcome. Most class members are married, and most are beginning families. There are fellowship opportunities as well as meaningful lessons focusing on parenting and other issues pertinent to young adults as they seek to apply their Christianity to daily living.

SEEKERS CLASS

This intergenerational class (40's - 70's) is comprised of singles, SOS’s (Single on Sundays) and married couples, with and without children.Our aim is to promote and build a foundation for spiritual growth. Through study, lively open discussion and fellowship, we seek a better understanding and strive to explore new depths of God's word and purpose for our daily lives.We have several regular leaders that provide a variety of approaches and diversity of expression.Our material is drawn from the United Methodist Adult Bible Study series and a variety of additional Bible focused studies. Our Mission Statement is: " To discover, understand and follow God's direction for our lives."

TARRYTOWN 20s - Young Adult Class

This Sunday School class meets for short-term (6-8 weeks) studies on Sunday's from 12:00-1:30.  We have lunch and a lesson.  Using scripture, other faith resources and discussion, we explore life issues young adults face and how our faith community can be a source of strength and support.  For more information, contact Ann Beaty or Liby Beck in the church office.  The group is also planning informal social gatherings and a service project for the summer.
